That's not a coincidence. That's a pattern. And honestly, the scepticism is fair.
Most of what gets sold as alkaline water deserves a raised eyebrow. Machines that promise to cure disease. Multi level marketing reps knocking on doors with a pH tester. Miracle claims that would make a snake oil salesman blush.
But here's the bit that gets lost in the pile on: "alkaline water" isn't one product. It's a category with two very different things wearing the same label. One of them earned the scam reputation fair and square. The other one is just water, shaped by geology, doing what mineral water has done for centuries.

For years, alkaline water ionisers have been sold with claims that would make a pharmacologist wince: neutralising acid in your bloodstream, preventing cancer, curing chronic disease. McGill University's Office for Science and Society has gone as far as calling parts of the alkaline water industry outright nonsense.

So when people say alkaline water is a scam, they're often not wrong. They're just talking about a specific kind of alkaline water, and assuming it's the whole category.
